We invite you to travel!
A surprise at AITF-2010 was the excellent opportunity available for travelling throughout Azerbaijan ... without leaving the exhibition. Visitors liked the idea of uniting stands demonstrating Azerbaijan’s regions in a single complex -- an enclosed pavilion surrounded by a row of bright expositions.
Visitors studied 17 tourist routes in Azerbaijan, each having its own advantages and flavours. Photo exhibitions, maps, brochures and guidebooks on history, carpets, vases, shebekes (arabesque), ornaments, flowers and traditional decorations are varying from stand to stand.
Figuratively speaking, the mountains and forests coexist with flowering meadows, hot plains and icy waterfalls. Exhibition participants look to attract visitors, and to surprise them with their diverse tourism products, hotel infrastructure, and possibilities for increased tourism in the regions.
Local tourism experts believe that the tourism representatives of Nakhchivan, Guba, Lerik and Baku attending the event have successfully solved this problem.
The booths from Sheki, Gebelya, Ganja and Khachmaz were decorated in a fun and interesting manner, while the Gakh, Lankaran, and Garabagh expositions won over visitors with their informal stories about local heritage.
All the exhibitors have something to be proud of - natural areas filled with unique historical monuments, national cultural treasures and original folk art.
Many regions presented ethnographic ensembles, and dance groups, as well as local wines, and sweets.
So, in the framework of AITF-2010, you are invited on a great trip around Azerbaijan. With each exhibition, we get closer to most remote regions of our country. That is the law of professional tourism exhibitions, as the journey begins at home.
Want to land on a unique fairy-tale island, which celebrates its 500th anniversary of becoming a part of the civilization this year? Mauritius, the heart of the sea-locked state in the south-west of the Indian Ocean, where you can fully enjoy the adventures in the landless waters, descend into the crater of an extinct volcano, enjoy the exotic birds and plants in nature reserves, and become acquainted with different cultures and mentality of myriad nations of the world.
We are ready not only to spend hours of talking about the wonders of Mauritius to all visitors of our stand but also to help with travelling to the magnificent white sand beaches and coral reefs of the island. Here, despite the remoteness of the island, European tourists admire the amazing sportfishing and diving. Though we have rare visitors from Azerbaijan, AITF 2010 has already proved the growing interest of your people in the charms of nature, heavenly impressions and implementation of successful commercial projects. We have myriad international companies, an offshore business centre, robust communications and highly educated people. Some people visit our land for business purposes, while others travel here to buy holiday houses. So, business tourism to Mauritius is as well of a certain interest for Azerbaijani entrepreneurs. Visitors to the exhibition are eager to learn about wide ranges of our services, which might be interesting for them outside the hotel. We explain them that we provide comfortable hotels, excellent services, and delicious food. And of course you can expect amazing tours full of historical and culture peculiarities, environmental surprises, and, finally, real adventures.
This is our first visit to Baku, and we believe that Azerbaijan, a country with strong economy, may allow its people to opt a new idea of relaxing on a tropical island. We have very good relations with Dubai, which is almost next to Azerbaijan. So, there are regular six-hour flights from Dubai to Mauritius. I believe that this is a good opportunity for people from Azerbaijan to discover the tropical island, in particular, island nation Mauritius. Therefore AITF 2010, a professional trade show that is annually held in different countries, gives favourable opportunities. This exhibition has played an important role in disseminating information about our country. Suffice it to say that President of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev personally visited our stand and, in a friendly conversation, showed interest to our state and opportunities for developing tourist relations.
We hope that through this exhibition, we will witness a surprise visit to our country of high level authorities from Azerbaijan. This will, no doubt, intensify international relations and help to develop tourism.
Andrei Andrianov, General Director of SOLEANS (Switzerland):
Where you can successfully combine the possibility of having a quality health care and spend great vacation? My answer is Switzerland, where tourism was originally developed and has now reached its perfection with established infrastructure and traditional services! Your visit to our wonderful country will be facilitated by a Swiss tour operator, which has a 19 year experience in receiving foreign tourists and organizing their leisure.
We receive every customer from all over the world, and arrange every kind of stay and exclusive services for them. Marketing research of requests from our Azerbaijani customers shows that one of the main features of tourists’ inflow is their desire for alternative medical examination in a European country. People want not just to be treated, but to have quality consultations, and as a consequence, rest in a country such as Switzerland to have unforgettable memories.
I am sure that this exhibition in Azerbaijan will show a positive influence on the increase of the tourists’ inflow from Azerbaijan to Switzerland. Let me be frank: I was surprised, in a good sense of this word, by interest of visitors shown to our stand, and was pleased to see professional partners in conversation and potential customers.
Yes, you know Switzerland very well!
Participating for the first time in this event, I have already made positive conclusions about the AITF exhibition. I think that our cooperation with the exhibition organiser ITECA CASPIAN will become a tradition. First, it is interesting to and useful for both parties. Second, having a confidence in the potential of Azerbaijani tourists, we are ready to provide them with ongoing assistance in visiting Europe.
Another view of the exhibition is its well organization and ... balance. There is always an opportunity to share views, answer questions, spare time for each visitor and provide him or her with maximum information. Here, an important principle of most international forums, i.e. to find an alternative and ensure balance between quantity and quality of customers, was achieved.
We had very interesting meetings at our stand, and successfully conducted a presentation for Azerbaijani tour operators on the specifics of the selling tours to Switzerland. So, I am satisfied!
Ales Sturm, Deputy Director of RENEE Tours (Slovenia):
Welcome to one of the smallest countries in Europe!
We are pleased to present you Slovenia at our booth in Azerbaijan. This is the first time we have visited the AITF. Our decision to attend was no mistake, as we have managed to attract the interest of Azerbaijani visitors. We are sure that we will actively participate in this exhibition in the future.
Our presentation's main focus is the renowned health resort Rogaska Slatina, which is known for its DONAD mineral water sources. This is a real "water of life," with a high concentration of magnesium. It helps cleanse your body and heals virtually all gastrointestinal diseases.
Many Europeans visit our resorts. Over the past 10 years, we have seen myriad visitors from Russia, Ukraine and other CIS countries. Our 15 years of experience with these tourists means that we can guarantee fruitful cooperation with Azerbaijan's promising market. We were able to build partnerships here, and we think local tour operators are interested in the idea of a joint business.
On the final day of any exhibition, as a rule, the preliminary results are summarized and compared with the initial predictions. Today, we can confidently assert that the AITF 2010 met our expectations, and marked a new chapter in the history of international tourism exhibitions.
The main accomplishment was not the large number of forum participants who arrived in Baku in spite of the global economic crisis, but rather President Ilham Aliyev's visit to the exhibition, which was the proof of the forum's involvement in best practices of globalisation and economic stability. The country's leader spared time for AITF 2010 participants, showed an interest in tourism development in foreign countries, and wished them success in their work.
It is worth noting that the fair has managed to create a wonderful atmosphere of relaxed friendliness and enthusiasm for businesses, which contributed to the organisers' decision to keep the right people in the right place. So during the opening hours of the exhibition, the flow of visitors was continuous.
The large “Gamigaya" stand immediately fascinated visitors with its hospitality -- from national beverages to funny songs and live music. Some visitors were tempted to dance. Of course, the exhibition should fill visitors with energy and positive emotions, and give the feeling that they are actually visiting different regions of the globe. Here, you can go trophy hunting in Latvia, while neighbouring stands are ready to provide you with a Shengen visa. The stately stands of Egypt and Istanbul were as attractive as palace gates of an alluring country, and Thailand, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan and India competed for variety and abundance of tourism offers.
Raffles on package tours and concessionary tickets turned into a real show, and the tasty treats and modern technology of the 4th Caucasian International Exhibition HOREX 2010 (“Everything For Hotels, Restaurants and Supermarkets”) stressed that the hotel business in Azerbaijan is developing rapidly.
It is worth emphasizing that this year's rightful place at the exhibition was taken by a complex of stands for Azerbaijani regions, established by the Culture and Tourism Ministry, which attracted not only visitors, but also most of the foreign participants.
Business and treatment visits, user-friendly insurance forms, exotic tours, tempting VIP-tour offers - all of these projects and services were in demand. Participants repeatedly stressed their effective participation in the exhibition. The approximate statistics of business negotiations at stands is as follows: nearly all of the exhibitors had an average of 7-8 specific meetings on a daily basis with potential partners, which culminated in the signing of contracts or opening prospects for cooperation in the near future. In other words, over 2,000 important international contacts with industry experts were made during the event. These contacts will now bind our country further with other parts of the globe. The press played an important role in attracting attention to the AITF 2010. The stands of our media partners fulfilled their mission, and the feature story on international tourism in the «Azerbaijan Review» attracted the attention of a VIP audience.
A landmark of the event was the professional activities of large tour operators, seeking to combine the benefits of outbound tourism with the rich possibilities of inbound tourism. Director of the National Tourist Office of the Czech Republic Pavel Franek, who "voted" for cooperation with Azerbaijan, said:
We seek a permanent partnership with your country for the flow of tourists not only from Azerbaijan to the Czech Republic, but also from the Czech Republic to Azerbaijan.
Traditionally, the exhibition has served as an audience for the improvement of professional excellence, and the enhancement of experience selling tours to popular destinations. Workshops conducted by representatives of Switzerland, Dubai, Italy, Israel consistently attracted the attention of Azerbaijani tour operators. Foreign experts spoke about the nuances of the tourism business in these four areas, but in general consulting services benefited about half of the visitors. Thus, almost every booth not only fulfilled the task of "show and tell", but also cultivated a moral awareness of the importance of tourism. The main categories of this argument were embodied in the AITF 2010 motto: "Come to the Exhibition -- Open the World." Yes, the Azerbaijani exhibition once again served as a backdrop where not only a thousand like-minded people met, but also strengthened international friendships among savvy, progressive and energetic people from 24 countries.
Today we – AITF 2010 members and visitors who have witnessed the realization of humanity and the global consolidation have the right to declare that the exhibition provides the peace and understanding necessary for the prosperity of society and the enrichment of human culture.
The presentation of the Baku-Crete flight was held yesterday at the stand of the Azerbaijani travel company SW Travel. The significance of opening the flight, which was timed to coincide with the exhibition, is associated with increasing entrepreneurial activity in the tourism industry, and particularly, in the direct air bridge between Azerbaijan and Greece. The need to organise the route was due to the increasing flow of Azerbaijani tourists to Greece.
The flight is organised on the request of well-known Azerbaijani tourist companies. The symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony bringing together the air spaces of our two countries was attended by four company leaders, and representatives of the Greek Embassy in Azerbaijan and the Greek Tourism Ministry.
According to participants, international tourism exhibitions are the ideal way to announce new projects. First, here, as they say, you have right people gathered in the right place. Second, the event attracted the attention of industry professionals, many visitors who had first-hand information about popular tourism services.
From June 12, weekly AZAL flights will deliver passengers to the legendary island of Aphrodite. The service providers are happy. The same happiness is shared by all tourists who have already obtained air tickets for this new flight. All this said, the AITF exhibition undoubtedly provides support for enterprise development in international tourism. In other words, its obligations are fulfilled both to participants and visitors.
Oksana Kleftogianni, Managing Director EPICURUS Travel (Greece):
Last year I arrived to Baku for the first time and visited the tourism exhibition. The event was both enjoyable and memorable. Thus, in 2010, I decided to organise our stand here, and we were all very pleased to see that the first visitor at the exhibition was the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. He studied our proposals for tourism development in Greece and Europe. This is one of the exhibition's important advantages. Here, the country's leaders can quickly and constructively evaluate the level of services and business proposals of foreign companies.
We also look forward to a fruitful meeting with representatives of the Culture and Tourism Ministry, and Azerbaijani tour operators.
Our company's motto is that we work for people who love to travel! This policy involves a wide range of tourist services. Our company has a representative office in Moscow, which is also present here today at the exhibition.
We have come to Azerbaijan to find partners to develop joint business. At the end of our first day, our hopes were justified. We had a critical mass of productive meetings. Participating in the AITF 2010 was a true benefit for our organisation.
Please contact us with any questions. You will quickly wee that travelling with EPICURUS Travel brings incredible experiences.
For more information on our services, including VIP tourism, please visit www.epicurus-travel.net.
We hope to be useful to you in Greece in the near future.
Aida Ercan, Manager of Domestic Tourism, Tourist DETUR (Turkey):
This is the third AITF exhibition in Azerbaijan that we have joined. Although our company, a tour operator, has been on the tourism market 15 years, we were mainly focused on the European market. However, every year circumstances change with more and more tourists coming from Azerbaijan. Now we are experiencing an urgent need to respond to this increased demand. Thus, we are taking part in Azerbaijani exhibitions for their practical efficiency.
By introducing Turkish resorts at AITF-2010, we are sure that we are keeping step with the times. Antalya and the Aegean coast, Bodrum, Marmara, Ankara, and Istanbul are all in high demand when it comes to Azerbaijani tourists. In fact, all Turkish cities are available as exclusive orders, and VIP-services are increasingly demanded by tourists from Azerbaijan. Choosing the best offers and superior service, visitors from Azerbaijani receive top-of-the-line tourism products by working with DETUR. Suffice it to say that, this year, our company is the official organizer of the Basketball World Championships.
Another important point of our expanding partnership is that all our indoor and outside presentations attract circa 95 percent of the visitors and professionals interested in joint businesses. This is a good indicator, but also a sign to become confident in the AITF exhibition's future!
Dr. Aytekin Yilmaz, Counsellor for Cultural and Information Affairs of the Turkish Embassy in Azerbaijan
In terms of presenting our country's tourism potential, we believe the Caucasus and Central Asia are of immense importance and also very promising.Of course, from this standpoint, Azerbaijan is the most profitable and stable partner. First, we are bound by a long-standing friendly relationship with this fraternal country. We also both speak kindred languages and hold constant mutual visits. Second, the number of Azerbaijani tourists to our country is on the rise. This is why, for the second year, we are participating in the AITF. This was the first time we have participated in the event as the partner country.
The exhibition brings together tourist industry representatives from two Turkish provinces. All of the exhibitors have immense experience participating in such events around the world, as well as organising tourist exhibitions in Istanbul.
We must note that the exhibition is very well done, and provides a forum of stability and mutual understanding, which brings practical benefits to all our participant countries, and helps them to forge cooperation. Thus, representatives of our Tourism Ministry have also opted to join our Turkish delegation.
Azerbaijani President Mr. Ilham Aliyev visited AITF 2010
Today, the 9th Azerbaijan International Tourism and Travel Fair (AITF) opened at the Heydar Aliyev Sports and Concert Complex. This year's AITF marks a new page in the development of the country’s tourism industry. For the first time, Azerbaijani President Mr. Ilham Aliyev visited the event, which greatly enhanced its status and made it a landmark event for all participants. The head of state toured the exhibition and paid special attention to regional stands reflecting Azerbaijan's expanding tourist potential. Mr. Aliyev also studied closely the national stands of Turkey, Greece, India and other foreign countries looking to attract Azerbaijani entities with their tourism offers. The exhibition's importance, with the slogan "Visit the Tourism and Travel Exhibition and an Open World", is underscored by its positive dynamics, i.e. a 20-percent increase in the exhibition area and 120 companies participating from 24 countries. Today, 33 tourist destinations are represented at the event, including Austria, Belarus, China, Germany, Italy, Cambodia, China, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Singapore, Slovenia, Ukraine, France and Switzerland, among others. Fourteen countries participate in the exhibition with national stands. Among these countries are permanent AITF members, such as Azerbaijan, Georgia, Greece, Malaysia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and the Czech Republic, as well as debutants Egypt, India, Italy (Lazio Region, Rome), Mauritius, the UAE, and Russia.
It should also be noted that local tourism businesses have significantly expanded their presence this year, and actively demonstrate the tourist potential of the country's regions. Active support for the exhibition is provided by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan.
For the first time this year, Turkey serves as the exhibition’s partner country. Among other partners are: Azerfon-Vodafone, Paşa Insurance, Caspel, SIAR, KREA, and the Kavkaz Point Hotel.
The hard-driving exhibition program also includes workshops, presentations, and prize raffles.
Together with the AITF, the 4th Caucasian International Exhibition “Everything for Hotels, Restaurants and Supermarkets” HOREX 2010 is also on the agenda. The event exhibits complex equipment for hotels, restaurants, supermarkets and kitchens, as well as vending machines, fast food systems, and furniture. This is the only event in the region where industry professionals meet annually to seek new opportunities and forge new partnerships.
Among renown brands at the HOREX are: National, Tolkar, Zanussi, Electrolux, Ratondi, Scotshmann, Winterhalter, and many others.
An event was held at the stand of the Azerbaijani travel company Millennium Tourism Congress DMS that could be called the next step towards international cooperation with Skal International Clubs. These tourist organisations were founded in 1954 and now number over 600 across the globe. They are an international association of tourism professionals.
Skal gathers under one roof leading international tourism professionals, promoting the idea of global tourism and friendship. This is the only international group uniting the entire travel and tourism industry.
AITF-2010 was a fortunate meeting place for two "colleagues," as Baku Skal International President Ruslan Guliyev exchanged contracts with the club's Vice President in Antalya Umman Chetinbas. Both industry experts noted the importance of strengthening friendship and professional relations, holding joint info-tours, trainings and Skal International events which are positively influencing the development of global tourism.
Sergei Nekrasov, President of the Association for Resorts and Tourism of the Stavropol Territory:
At the AITF-2010, we are presenting spa services in the Stavropol Region. As part of our joint stand, we are holding exhibits of resort cities such as Yessentuki, Zheleznovodsk, Kislovodsk, Mineral Waters, and Pyatiqorsk, which are famous for their unique methods of treatment.
The joint stand represents 16 companies and tour operators who specialize in Caucasian health resorts. Our participation in the exhibition is due to our region's increased interest in Azerbaijan -- no less than 20 percent of spa visitors come from your country. Of course, this has affected the feasibility of expanding the market. We need to become better acquainted with our old partners, establish relations with new partners and renew and expand contacts. All these aspirations, we hope, can be realized at this exhibition in Baku.
Evgeny Nikitin, General Director of the “Jemchujina Kafkaza” Sanatorium (the Pearl of the Caucasus), Honoured Professor of the Russian Federation:
Traditionally, Azerbaijani people come for successful medical treatment to our sanatorium. Caucasian resorts have long been famous for their abilities to positively influence the digestive system, lungs, etc. From your region, we have third- and fourth-generation visitors, who come not only for treatment, but also to relax and unwind. Maybe they are attracted by the similar geographical and mental peculiarities of our territories? The main thing is that, through this exhibition, we are able to strengthen links that are beneficial for human health, as well as business tourism.

and much more.
Starting with AITF, exhibitors and visitors will be able to use information kiosks at all our exhibitions in 2010.
AITF 2010, the 9th Azerbaijan International Travel and Tourism Fair, will be held on 28-30 April in the Heydar Aliyev Sport and Concert Complex.
AITF is a place for meeting tourism industry professionals and a link between companies wishing to expand their business in Azerbaijan, and provides visitors with an ideal opportunity to discover new tourist destinations. The show is officially supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan, World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Azerbaijan Tourism Association, and National Confederation of Entrepreneurs’ (Employers’) Organisation of the Azerbaijan Republic. This year, for the first time, Turkey will act as the partner country of AITF, as well as present its national stand showing Turkish destinations.
AITF 2010 will be a key event of the year. Over 100 companies are expected to participate. Based on this fact and the number of companies that have confirmed their participation in AITF 2010, we are predicting growth of 15% against last year. National stands, one of the main attractions of any travel exhibition, will feature prominently at AITF 2010, and companies from 24 countries will exhibit.
The comprehensive programme of events accompanying the exhibition will include seminars, presentations and prize raffles. The traditionally slogan of the exhibition is “Discover the world with AITF”, as the exhibition will provide a unique opportunity for visitors to see the country they would like to visit. A variety of offers from tour operators in Europe, Asia and Africa will make AITF 2010 an international tourism festival.
The exhibition is organised by ITE Group Plc and its partner in the Caucasus, Iteca Caspian.
AITF 2010 will feature the following destinations: Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, China, Cyprus, Slovenia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Singapore. National stands, one of the main attractions of any travel exhibition, will feature prominently at AITF 2010.
For the first at AITF 2010, India, whose ancient culture and rich history attracts tourists from all over the world, will present its tourism potential. During the exhibition, professional actors from India will perform a programme of exciting national dances.
The exhibition will be attended by tourist companies from the island of Mauritius. Last year, only one company from this exotic country took part in the exhibition. This year, a whole group of Mauritian companies will participate in the AITF exhibition.
One of the exhibitors this year will be Greece, which will offer visitors a variety of resorts, from mountains and sea to historical excursions.
The heart of European tourism, the Czech Republic, a permanent exhibitor at AITF, will present its popular spa resorts, such as Karlovy Vary, Marianske Lazne and others.
Swiss tour operators, one of which is the largest tour operator in Europe for the CIS, will show a huge range of possibilities for different types of tourists.
Dubai, which is called the Venice of the East, has more and more participating companies at the exhibition every year. This year, AITF will feature the UAE’s national stand, as well as tourism companies presenting a wide network of luxury hotels in Dubai, and exotic tourism in a small Bedouin village. In addition, there will be special offers for shopping enthusiasts.
Exotic destinations, under the title “Paradise islands”, will be presented by Malaysia – taking part in the exhibition for the second consecutive year - Thailand, the Seychelles and the Maldives.
Ukrainian companies will offer Black Sea resorts to Azerbaijani visitors. A priority area of tourism in Ukraine is balneology resorts and spa treatment, which are very popular in Azerbaijan. The exhibition will feature the health resorts of Truskavets, which is famous for its variety of mineral waters.
The Stavropol Region has announced its intention to have a stand at AITF 2010, at which it will present a whole range of health resort treatments. As part of the exhibition, an info tour will be organised for a delegation of entrepreneurs from Stavropol Region, headed by the administrative leadership. Interest in Azerbaijan from this region of Russia is very high. According to a survey, Azerbaijani citizens make up 20% of the occupancy of health centres in the Stavropol Region. This sphere of cooperation is, therefore, very promising, as shown by the active participation of the Stavropol delegation in AITF 2010.
Azerbaijan will act as the hospitable host. The network of hotels in the Absheron Zone will be widely presented, including new new tourist facilities hat opened this year. Internal regional tourism in Azerbaijan will be presented by hotels in Gilan, Nabran, Mingechevir, Ogus and other and Ogus. The regions of Azerbaijan will be featured in a separate pavilion for the first time. Each city will have the opportunity to present its own programme. Traditionally, the stand of Garabagh will present the magnificent nature of this unordinary zone. The organiser of the stand is the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Azerbaijan Republic.
14 April 2010 [19:15] - Today.Az
The Azerbaijan International Tourism and Traveling Exhibition will open on April 28 at Heydar Aliyev Sports and Concert Complex.
The exhibition focuses on the potential areas for the future development of tourism in all regions of Azerbaijan.
The preparation for the exhibition is almost over, the Azeri minister of culture and tourism Abulfas Garayev said. The show will last till April 30.
This agreement was the result of effective cooperation between the two companies over the past three years. In 2007, Azerfon took part for the first time in BakuTel, the Azerbaijan International Telecommunications & Information Technologies Exhibition & Conference, where it presented the NarMobile brand. In 2008, Azerfon was the general sponsor of the BakuTel exhibition. And last year, the new brand Azerfon-Vodafone was presented to exhibitors and visitors at BakuTel.
The head of Azerfon-Vodafone, Mrs. Leyla Nasrullayeva, expressed confidence in the success of the joint cooperation between the two companies and said:
“Our cooperation with the leader of the exhibition industry in Azerbaijan, Iteca Caspian, is not accidental. Our strategy is to support new phases of development in the telecommunications sector, and all the economic processes taking place in Azerbaijan. Azerfon has established a solid foundation for the process of integrating closer Azerbaijan’s mobile communications sector into the global mobile communications system. Our main goal is to exclusively provide the most advanced services in the field of mobile communications, based on 3G-technology, to participants of exhibitions.”
At the same time, the director of Iteca Caspian, Mr. Farid Mamedov expressed his satisfaction with the partnership agreement: “We are pleased to see among our partners Azerfon-Vodafone, which is at the forefront of advanced ICT technologies in Azerbaijan. The partnership of the two companies, which are leaders in their fields, will provide new opportunities for exhibitors and visitors of our events in Azerbaijan in 2010.
AITF is the main event of the tourism industry in Azerbaijan and the Caucasus region. Over the years, AITF has become a key platform for establishing and maintaining contacts between international and Azerbaijani tourism professionals.
One of the advantages of taking part in the exhibition is the reliability and promise of Azerbaijan. According to a report by the World Bank and International Finance Corporation, Azerbaijan is recognised as a world leader in implementing business regulation reforms.
Today, the world is experiencing an economic crisis and industrial output is falling. However, Azerbaijan ranks highly internationally for the rate of economic development over the past five years (2004-2008). During this period, the economy has grown 2.6 times, and budget expenditure more than 10 times. According to a UN report, (World Economic Situation and Prospects 2009) Azerbaijan will continue to be most rapidly developing economy in the CIS.
Tourism in Azerbaijan is a fast developing industry, and the AITF exhibition will present interesting new trends and destinations.
In the past few years, 320 hotels of different categories, with 30,706 rooms, have been built and existing hotels upgraded. 35 new hotels are currently under construction. Four new international airports started operating in 2009.
Inbound tourism: Despite the overall slowdown, Azerbaijan is experiencing high volumes of inbound tourism. According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan, in 2009, the number of tourists coming to Azerbaijan was up 40-45% against the previous year, and will increase to 2.3 million.
Outbound tourism: The number of Azerbaijani tourists travelling abroad is also up against previous years. In 2008, the number of outbound tourists was 2.45 million. This figure grew by 16 percent in 2009. The top ten destinations were Turkey, Italy, Spain, UAE, Ukraine, Russia, Greece, Malaysia, Thailand and Switzerland.
The fact that the annual tourism exhibition is taking place will serve as a good sign to the international business community. It suggests that the Azerbaijani market is developing rapidly, which, of course, is attractive for conducting business. According to a survey of exhibitors, 73.9% said they would take part next year. For companies that want to gain a foothold in the region, participating in exhibitions in Azerbaijan is a guarantee of success.
This year, for the first time, Turkey will act as the partner country of the Azerbaijan International Travel and Tourism Fair. Turkey will also participate in the exhibition with a national stand, the size of which has increased by 40% compared with last year.
