5 million tourists to visit Azerbaijan for year
Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The Ministry of Culture & Tourism of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijan Institute of Tourism developed forecasts for the tourism industry of the country until 2023.
Institute’s pro-rector Eldar Gasimov says that the work is called "Azerbaijani tourism in 2023: objectives and tasks".
"Given the pace of hotel construction in Azerbaijan, by 2023 the country will need about 200,000 qualified personnel in the tourism sector with the fact that in school year 2013-14 there will be only 1,029 graduates in different degrees of training in the field of tourism," Gasimov said.
He points out that currently there are 170 tourism companies in Azerbaijan and this number is expected to be brought up to 350 in 2023 and the number of hotels will rise from 516 up to 1,500 hotel facilities. The quantity of rooms is now only 33,000 and is going to increase up to about 100,000 while the number of employees in the tourist market is reaching 9,051 people and will be 75,600.
"In 2013 the country was visited by 2.48 million tourists, and in 2023 their number will grow up to 5 million tourists. The share of tourism in GDP is now just 0.9%, and after 9 years will grow up to 2.5%," Gasimov said.
Pro-rector said that one of the main problems of Azerbaijani tourism in 2023 will be shortage of personnel.
Results of predictions will be presented to the Ministry of Culture & Tourism and the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan.
